Neural Spiking

Neurons communicate via #Action Potentials (also spikes, spike trains). A neuron is progressively depolarized via excitations from connected neurons. Once a threshold is reached, an action potential is triggered, resetting the neurons polarization and propagating an electric signal along the neurons axons, a so called Spike. The brains activity is the dynamics of this spiking behavior of each neuron, #Spike Patterns encode and transmit information within and between networks of neurons.

Spike Patterns

Neural spikes differ in their rate, timing and synchrony of firing and are essential in the efficient encoding and processing of information in the brain.
